Weddings are happy times and one of the most fun part about it is the shopping spree. However, when at the saree shops the ladies tend to be clueless about what types of saree to look for to buy for their wedding trousseau. Therefore, this is where pre-research comes in handy and you have come to the right place to help you decide how to choose 10 sarees for wedding. In this blog post I will share 10 different types of must have sarees for wedding so that when it is time to attend those numerous post wedding parties and invitations at your in-laws house, you are more than prepared for a varied look right in your luggage. So without further ado here is a list of must have sarees to choose from to be a gorgeous and fabulous new bride.
Katan Sarees and Banarasi Sarees:
First of all, katan and banarasi sarees are to die for and even if you are generally not partial to these types of sarees, I urge you to get at least one of these traditional sarees for the wedding trousseau. There are so many variations to katan banarasi sarees that there is always one for any type of lady. Katan sarees and banarasi sarees are traditionally popular with Bangladeshi and Indian ladies and can be found all over India and Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, a wide variety of these sarees are sold in a shopping area called Mirpur banarasi polli in its capital city, Dhaka.
However, there are a few tips and tricks to wearing traditional katan sarees that one should keep in mind before buying. Although, the thick bordered (or what is known as the “paar” of the saree) looks very appealing when the saree vendor holds it on the rail, it is not the cup of tea for all body type. Thick bordered sarees look great on taller ladies with a slim build rather than shorter ladies. The reason behind this is it eats away the height, which a tall lady can afford to play with. For women of below average height of 5 feet 3 inches, narrower border / paar looks better.

Banarasi Sarees for Overweight ladies:
As banarasi sarees tend to be of silk they have a tendency to make the lady appear a bit bulky if the lady is not slim. Hence, it is not the ideal saree to drape on a lady who is a bit over weight. But there is nothing to fret about as there is such a thing called georgette banarasi saree. Georgette banarasi saree is easier to drape and clings well on the body without adding bulk.
Second on my list of 10 must have sarees for wedding is the embroidered sarees. Embroidered sarees comes in all kinds of fabric imaginable and the embroidery itself can be of varied thread, starting from cotton thread embroidery to zari embroidery. Both hand embroidered or machine embroidered sarees are sold in shopping malls. There are so many gorgeous designs to choose from that it is sure to spin a girl’s head. Sharing below some photographs of embroidered sarees for wedding purpose.
Third on our list of 10 must have sarees for wedding is the lace saree. Amongst lace sarees, Chantilly Lace Sarees are my personal favourite and it is so worth it to invest in one. There is not much to say here except that lace sarees are one of the most delicately feminine sarees to adorn women. If you want to learn more about lace sarees do check out one of my blog posts on it here. Lace sarees can be worn as it is, that is the entire saree will be made of lace fabric. Also, it can be made to have a border / paar in contrasting colour.

Mirror sarees and saree blouse designs are a big hit in the saree industry and I concur, every new bride must have one of these in her wardrobe. Mirror work looks best on chiffon sarees and when it is paired with a heavy mirror work saree blouse, the entire look is just stunning. Here are a few pictures below of mirror work sarees.

Brides look absolutely adorable in cotton sarees at home the first few days after the wedding. Casually wear cotton sarees at home as a new bride. Paired with a simple one tone blouse, printed chiffon sarees look fun and girly. So, drape a pretty chiffon printed saree when roaming the city with the new husband.
